History: It was near the conclusion of the 50’s when the company founder, Willard “Willie” Stutzman made his dream into a reality. It was an exciting time in our country. He, like millions of other Americans, had the desire and conviction to form a business, to be independent and to be self-employed.
Water softening was starting to become familiar to the public. As Willie became aware of the industry, he began to do research. Numerous factors, statistics, and data were gathered and considered. He sought out the advice of several entrepreneurs including his father, Abner Stutzman who had raised his Topeka family in farming.
Willie found that the industry exceeded his expectations in addition to qualifying for his most desired requirements, being able to provide a product to consumers that would help them save time and money while improving the quality of life for all concerned. What’s in a name? While driving he spotted the name “Do More” on a barn. He knew immediately that he had found the name for his new company. He later stated, “Do More, that’s what I wanted to do!” He modified the spelling somewhat and created the catchy name..”Du-Mor Soft Water Company”. It became official and has been in business doing more ever since. The first slogan soon followed, Du-Mor Does More.
In the late 60’s, Willie moved Du-Mor from his Goshen home to a commercial store front. Dunlap was chosen because it was central to Du-Mor’s customer service areas.
Time and growth dictated name changes as the company gained momentum and matured into a corporation. Du-Mor Soft Water Company, Inc. The House of Du-Mor, Inc. “In the heart of beautiful downtown Dunlap.” Du-Mor Water Systems, Inc. And now, DuMor Water Specialists, Inc.
Today, DuMor is a second generation business. Willie’s son, Brian, purchased the business in 1992 after working many years at his father’s side. Willie now enjoys life being retired on a part time basis. Always a waterman, he is still helping people with their water improvement needs along with the rest of the professionals
